Popis: The alimentary rituals of daily life are a means of reinforcing its sense of the eternal present. This concept of the tragic is to be contrasted with the links between present and future as reflected in the religious visions where contemporary taboos become the permissiveness of Paradise. The argument is illustrated by the role played by a specific dish, m'hammas, in defining rites of passage, both those of marriage and widowhood.
