Investigations of the effect of dimethyl-lauryl-benzyl ammonium chloride (ajatin) on the resistance of cell membranes in rough and smooth forms of yeast cells

Popis:	It was found that under anaerobic conditions Ajatin considerably enhances the decolorization rate of methylene blue in yeast cells; this can be explained by damage of the cell membranes. This effect of Ajatin depends on the cell concentration, but does not only depend on the weight ratio of this agent and the yeast cells, as suggested by some authors. At lower concentrations of yeast cells a rising concentration of Ajatin causes a steep drop in activity which is not found at higher cell concentrations.
