Popis: | The authors describe an experimental device in which the thermal decomposition of mixtures of a metal chloride and boron tribromide takes place by means of solar furnace heating. By adjusting the gaseous phase composition the solid deposited compound can be modified. Several molybdenum and tungsten borides have been obtained in this manner on a niobium surface. They are uniform and perfectly adhesive. Micrographies show their appearance. Microhardness prints on the boride and on the underlying metal are used to compare the relative hardnesses, and evidence demonstrates that the hardness of niobium has not been changed after the treatment. |
