Distributed generation refers to an approach that employs small-scale technologies to produce electricity close to the end users of power. Solar based distributed generation systems are widely used now and it is a fast-growing technology doubling its worldwide installed capacity every couple of years. In such systems, storage unit is mandatory to ensure the reliability; hence necessitates a bidirectional DC/DC converter (BDC) to control the power flow. As compared with conventional BDC, interleaved bidirectional DC/DC converter (IBDC) has many advantages including improved dynamic response and reduced size of filter components without compromising on the efficiency. In this paper, a novel topology for bidirectional DC/DC converter for the application in distributed generation systems is proposed and detailed comparison of its features with the conventional converter topologies are presented. The theoretical analysis and the enhanced features of the proposed topology are justified with simulation results. |
