The influence of medium pH on the flocculation of kaolin and ochre suspensions by pyridinium polyelectrolytes is studied by turbidimetry, optical microscopy, and sedimentometry. It is established that flocculating activity of such polyelectrolytes shows an extremal dependence with the maximum in the neutral pH region. It is found that, in the examined pH range, the use of the copolymer of 1,2-dimethyl-5-vinylpyridinium methyl sulfate with N-vinylpyrrolidone and acrylamide yields the densest and strongest flocs with a high sedimentation rate. |
