Effect of the conditions of heat treatment on enthalpies of combustion of carbon fibre based on polyacrylonitrile

Popis: A study has been made of the applicability of a thermochemical method for determination of enthalpies of combustion by analysis of structure formation processes occurring in carbon fibres based on polyacrylonitrile. In view of the relationship that was found between enthalpies of combustion and thermal processing temperatures of the fibres it is proposed that a two stage structure formation process is involved, each stage differing as to the physical character of the process: stage I covers the interval 1500–1800°; stage In is associated with crystallization of the fibres. The interval 1800–2100° appears to be a boundary region wherein completion of pre-crystallization processes takes place.
