The genus Sinomonas is a Gram-staining positive, non-motile bacteria that belongs to the family Micrococcaceae of the phylum Actinobacteria. In this chapter, we cover various characters of Sinomonas species, such as its present taxonomic placement, species ecological niche, and morphological, physiological, biochemical, chemotaxonomic, and molecular characters. Interestingly, members of this genus have been revealed as a valuable source for important enzymes and plant growth promoters. They have been reported for synthesizing silver nanoparticles, increasing fuel efficacy, and for bioremediation. The genus is less known among the phylum Actinobateria, but has good bioactivity and energy value. Hence, new ecological niche, together with selective isolation techniques, has to be designed to explore their valuable sources. |
