Popis: The standard scale of electrochemical potentials is based on an arbitrary choice of reference, the standard hydrogen electrode. In analogy with concepts from surface science, an absolute standard can be defined for every electrochemical reaction; it is based on a simple cycle and involves only quantities pertaining to the particular reaction. The definition given here is equivalent to that given by IUPAC.
