The formation of intramolecular exciplexes and intramolecular electron transfer reactions of amino-alkylbenzenes

Popis:	Examination of the fluorescence spectra of N,N-diethyl-4-phenyl-butylamine (2), and 1-dimethylamino-4-phenylbicyclo-[2,2,2] octane (3), shows that (2) forms an intramolecular exciplex whereas (3) exhibits intramolecular energy transfer from the benzene nucleus to the amino group. Laser flash photolysis shows that in acetonitrile solution excitation of (3) causes intramolecular electron transfer whereas in methanol electron ejection occurs.
