Popis:	We study local-field effects as possible tool of enhancement of quadratic nonlinearity in doped optical fibers. For realistic dopant, we show that second-harmonic generation may be fundamentally altered by the change of fundamental wave dynamics due to the local-field effect. Novel effects that are discovered include a local-field enhancement of quadratic nonlinearity and depletion compensation of the fundamental wave.
