Diffusion-weighted MRI is an imaging technique in which image contrast depends principally on the degree to which tissue water molecules are free to move within cells and to pass through cell membranes. The molecules move along random paths, repeatedly colliding with one another as they drift about. This random motion is known as diffusion and it takes place to a greater or lesser extent in all fluids and tissues. |
