Popis: Biodiesel is one of the most promising alternative fuels for diesel engines because they are potentially renewable, nontoxic, biodegradable, clean-burning, high lubricity, low environmental impact, derived from vegetable oils, and could be used directly in diesel engines without requiring extensive engine modifications. The major objective of the present work is to investigate the engine performance and exhaust emissions of variable compression ratio of a single cylinder, 4-stroke, and direct injection diesel engine with different blends of biodiesel, load, compression ratio, and injection pressure. Four parameters were considered to investigate the engine performance and emissions. Hence, to reduce the cost of experimentation, it is decided to conduct the experiments using Design of Experiments (DOE) technique, which in turn reduces the number of experiments. The significant parameters were determined using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. The adequacy of the developed models is verified by using coefficient of determination (R2). The results are predicted by the response surface model. The engine performance and emissions were analyzed in detail.
