Popis: The yields of the 2-alkylcyclobutanones formed by irradiation of foodstuffs do not seem to depend on the nature of the food matrix. Owing to its detection limit (0.2 pmol), the method for the detection of irradiation treatment published by the European Committee for Standardization, a method particularly valuable for the URP (unique radiolytic product) character of the 2-alkylcyclobutanones which was confirmed during this study, may only be applied with complete confidence to foodstuffs treated for the purpose of microbial disinfection (doses >0.5 kGy), whose fat content is higher than 1.0 g %.
