Popis: Much of human existence is devoted to the avoidance of pain or seeking relief from persistent pain. Pain is an important part of the human protective mechanism, but when pain becomes chronic, it may occupy all of a human’s existence. Scientifically, pain can be defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or it can be described in terms of such tissue damage. Nociception denotes the experimental approach to the study of neuronal representation of noxious stimuli in humans and animals. The nature of pain has permeated human thought since ancient times; even the book of Genesis reminds us that pain came to man through the fall. Ancient myths record the painful suffering of gods and certain theological dogma has centered on the role of pain and suffering in human existence.
