The aim of this study was to investigate the reduction of odour and ammonia from outlet air using vertical biofilters in two units with growing-finishing pigs in both the winter and summer. The biofilters were cylindrical and hollow, and woodchips were used as medium. Each biofilter treated the air from a unit housing 180 growing-finishing pigs. Before reaching the inside of the biofilter, the air from the pig facility was humidified by a high-pressure water system. The odour and ammonia removal efficiency of the two biofilters was measured during the winter and summer. A total of 112 odour and ammonia measurements were performed. The biofilters significantly reduced the odour concentration (OUE/m3) in the outlet air (P |
