Statistical tools are designed to draw meaningful conclusions from available data. Like other fields, biosciences has a vast pool of invaluable data through which extensive insights can be obtained about an experiment. Also, since these data are subject to experimental error, the application of statistical tools and methods provides the needed support in arriving at the appropriate conclusions. As with many experiments in the biosciences, when it is necessary to use replicate sampling, a judiciously selected statistical analysis can prevent the researcher from going through the trouble of carrying out unnecessary experiments. This chapter contains detailed information on selected statistical tools and methods which are useful in biosciences. It does not contain a thorough explanation of the theory behind each method. Some worked illustrations are provided as a valuable guide for the reader. |
