Popis: Two distinct algorithms to detect the presence of tropopause folds from ozone and meteorological radio soundings have been developed within Task Group 3b (KMI/CNRS and University of Cologne) and have been applied to several sites of the TOR network. A third algorithm, based on the connection of foldings to frontogenetic processes and using objective analysis, gives fold statistics on a global scale. Episodes of stratospheric air injection are also detected from ozone and 7Be measurements at mountain sites. The latter two studies are contributions from the EUMAC project to the task group. The results show an about 4 times higher folding frequency than previously assumed. Spatial inhomogenities in the folding occurrence distribution are derived especially from the algorithm using objective analysis. An attempt is made to derive from the tropopause fold climatologies the average stratospheric ozone influx into the troposphere over Europe and in the northern hemisphere.
