Popis: Several studies indicate that rural traffic flow can most accurately be modelled in terms of travelling queues of vehicles as proposed by Miller (1963). The second order statistical properties (variance, autocorrelation function, and spectral density) of the acoustic noise generated by such streams of traffic is considered. Calculations are given for a model in which the headway distribution within a queue differs from that between successive queues. We show that changes in flow rate are more important for determining second order properties than are details of the within queues headway distribution. Particular results are given for queue length distributions of the form pn = theta N-1 (1-theta) where theta is the probability of having more than one car in the queue. /TRRL/
