Popis: | In Chronicle of the Murdered House, the character of Barao de Santo Tirso is presented as the most important citizen of the city of Vila Velha, in the interior of Minas Gerais, being his visit the vibrant desire of the Meneses family. This article aims to discuss the construction of this character and the meanings that it constructs, due to his absence and presence, during the book, observing his role as a representation of the dilemmas between modernity and coloniality in Brazilian society. Through Lucio Cardoso’s writing and how he creates the Baron’s family, we seek to point out the elements that place him as a satire of inheritance of the monarchical hierarchy and of the colonial values that still exist in the country. |
