Using the classical three-body collision theory calculations have been performed to describe the ionization of He + -ions by electrons in the threshold region. For incident energies E i up to about 0.3 eV above the ionization threshold U He + we find that the cross section has the energy dependence ( E i − U He + ) α , where α = 1.055 ± 0.007. In this threshold region the probability distribution for the energies of both outgoing electrons is found to be independent of the energy transfer. Both outgoing electrons appear to attain large orbital momenta which decrease with excess energy as l ∼( E i − U He + ) −0.5 . |
