Popis: IS IT advisable or possible to use literature as the basis for language instruction at the second-year college level? The question concerns quite specifically the second year, since this is really the only time the problem arises. As far as the first year is concerned, few would quarrel with the notion that literature can be hardly more than an adjunct to texts specifically conceived for teaching purposes, while in the third year, it would appear that the use and study of literature is solidly and generally established.
