Genomic imprinting is regulated by DNA methylation and established during gametogenesis and maintained in the preimplantation embryos. The aberrant expression and methylation of several imprinted genes has been linked to various congenital imprinting disorders in humans. Recent reports identified an increased incidence of normally rare imprinting disorders in babies conceived after assisted reproductive technology (ART). In this review, we discuss the association of epigenetic alterations with the environmental factors including ART. Moreover, we introduced the prevention, maintenance, and current treatment of their imprinting disorders. Our further molecular understanding of these syndromes and the function of epidrug medicine will lead to the development of novel treatment methods in near feature. |
