Popis:	This paper gives a solution to the problem of the propagation of a plane shock wave in soils and in water; the solution was obtained by the method of characteristics using an electronic computer. Here, the soils were regarded as multicomponent media, in accordance with a previously proposed model [1, 2]. A comparison is made between the parameters of the waves and the dimensions of the gas cavity in soils with a different content of their components and in water.
