Popis: The early results of a double-blind randomised controlled trial of selective and truncal vagotomy, each combined with pyloroplasty, in the treatment of 100 patients with duodenal ulcer are described. All patients were assessed after one year by a physician who did not know the nature of the operation in any given case. No patient had died, and there was no difference in clinical grading between the two groups. There was no significant difference in the incidence of diarrhœa one year after operation. A higher proportion of negative insulin tests was found in patients treated by the selective operation.
