Popis: A novel gas-sensing system based on a dynamic nonlinear response is reported. A sinusoidal temperature change was applied to a semiconductor gas sensor, and the resulting resistance of the sensor was analyzed. The output signals of the sensor changed characteristically depending on the composition of the gas species. The characteristic nonlinear responses of a gas sensor are discussed in relation to the kinetics of gas molecules on the semiconductor surface and the results of an ab-initio MO calculation on the interaction between a CO gas molecule and a SnO2 surface.
