This work had as main objective to investigate, through a literature review, the role of drugs in the etiology and treatment of bruxism. It was observed that the drugs related to the etiology of such a parafunction, reported by the authors, were amphetamines and related drugs, L-dopa, propanolol, lithium and selective re-uptake inhibitors of serotonin. In the pharmacological treatment, the most used drugs were analgesics, muscle relaxants, anxiolytics, corticosteroids, L-dopa, propanolol and tricyclic antidepressants. It was observed that the influence of drugs in the etiology of bruxism is quite controversial in the literature, as well as its treatment. Then, for drugs to be effective, they must be associated with further therapeutics modalities, joining other specialties of the health field and thus promoting a comprehensive and safe treatment, as drugs by themselves do not promote improvement or cure of such parafunction.
