Electronic structure of the reconstructed p(2×2)S overlayer on Ni(111)

Popis: | It is well established that heating the p(2x2)S overlayer to 900°K produces a change in the observed LEED pattern suggestive of surface reconstruction. The angular resolved photoemission spectra show that before and after heating there are two adsorbate derived bands of well defined symmetry at Γ ; in addition, the observed peak positions are not shifted by the reconstruction. The major manifestation of the structural change is a threefold increase in the intensity of the S(3pz) derived band in the normal emission surface. It is concluded that the reconstructed surface layer is a suitable pseudohexagonal mesh with an appropriate coincidence mesh with the substrate. |
