The complexation of the insecticide azinphos-methyl with β-cyclodextrin has been investigated in an attempt to develop better formulation and application methods. An inclusion complex with a 3:2 β-cyclodextrin:azinphos-methyl molar ratio was obtained. The complex was characterized by solubility properties, elemental analysis, UV and proton NMR spectroscopy and inclusion constant. Enhancement of water solubility and suspensibility, disappearance of the unpleasant odour and reduction of dermal toxicity are the main results of the complexation. The insecticidal effectiveness of the complex, tested in the field against Cydia pomonella on apple trees and Cydia molesta on peach trees, was comparable with that of a commercial formulate of non included insecticide. |
