Popis: This study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Mangifera indica L. unripe peel. The extraction was done by individual cold percolation extraction method (hexane, acetone and aqueous). The antioxidant activity was evaluated using antioxidant assays like 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl free radical scavenging assay, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, superoxide anion radical scavenging assay, ABTS radical cation scavenging assay, ferric-reducing antioxidant power and reducing capacity assessment. Total phenol and flavonoid content was also measured. The antioxidant activities showed different levels in different assays. The acetone extract showed better antioxidant activity as compared to other extracts. This suggests that the choice of solvent definitely and significantly influences the extraction of phenols and subsequently antioxidant activity. This study demonstrated that mango peel, can serve as a potential source of antioxidants for use in the preparation of dietary supplements or nutraceuticals, food ingradients, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. The results indicate that this peel possesses antioxidant properties and has nutraceutical potential for the treatment of malnutrition.
