Popis: Antigenic extracts of adult flukes were introduced into the livers of rabbits infected with Fasciola hepatica. The changes so induced produced an environment in the tissues which was inimical to the establishment of a subsequent challenge infection. This resulted in the loss of about ½ to ¾ of the challenge infection. Estimations of SGOT activity showed that liver-damage occurred with fluke infection and that the injection of fluke antigen into infected rabbits also damaged the liver. It is suggested that liver-damage produced by an analphylactic-type reaction is responsible for the changes in the tissues and that hexachlorophane administered to similarly infected rabbits produced an analogous reaction. Precipitating antibodies were formed in response to all the fluke infections but the injection of fluke antigen did not significantly affect the titres.
