Methodology to evaluate the performance of metal-oxide surge arresters monitoring techniques based on the resistive leakage current

Popis: This paper presents a methodology to evaluate the performance of four metal-oxide surge arresters monitoring techniques based on the resistive leakage current. The performance of those techniques was evaluated for several applied voltage levels to the surge arrester (into two regions: low current linear and nonlinear). The influence of the harmonic components of the voltage was considered. The proposed methodology aims to provide parameters for the evaluation of those techniques for different surge arresters operating conditions (amplitudes and harmonic distortions in the voltage). It was verified the effectiveness of the evaluated procedures by means of laboratory tests, computational implementation, and statistical analysis. The test results indicate that the performance of each one of them can be verified by means of the nonlinear coefficient and statistical analysis.
