Popis: Summary (1) The natural haemolytic activity of sheep serum towards rabbit erythrocytes was found to be higher in grazing animals than in comparable sheep on an artificial ration. (2) similar difference was noted in the natural bactericidal reaction towards a strain of B. coli . (3) No such difference was apparent in the complementary power of the serum or in the β-lysin (tested with Streptococcus haemolyticus ) or agglutination reaction with B. abortus . (4) A group of sheep fed on fresh green food in indoor pens did not show the same increase in the two reactions mentioned above as did the grazing group. (5) The proportion of sheep showing a negative reaction to a given dose of the toxin of the lamb dysentery bacillus ( B. welchii type B) was greater in the grazing group than in those fed on green food and on the artificial ration.
