Popis: A comprehensive investigation into physico-mechanical properties of four types of the light-absorbing coating materials has been performed under the conditions closely approximating those of outer space. It is shown that a wide variety of physico-chemical processes occurring in irradiated materials result from a variety of the radiation types. These processes are defined by its energy and dose as well as the structural and chemical composition of polymer. Based on the experimental results, the Kapton has been proposed as a base for the light-absorbing coatings as well as for other composites intended for use in outer space. In addition to the maximum resistance to radiation, it features plasticity at 4.2 K in contrast with another polymer materials. The Kapton plasticity is supposed to be of quantum nature at T=4.2 K.
