Popis: | Business rules are now being presented not just as ways of building structure into the way organisations act but of making information systems react much more quickly to changes. Touted by vendors as the missing component in delivering service-oriented applications, business rules have acquired techniques from the world of artificial intelligence to try to make it possible to give users rather than developers the ability to make and change rules. With that level of control, organisations not to wait to change rules to reflect changing conditions, they can just let their managers get on with the job. But, this vision of the adaptive enterprise has some way to go. Standards for business rules are still in development and users are finding problems and issues when they use business rules to drive their applications, although some are reporting successes. The author looks at how the business rules approach is evolving and how users are approaching the technology as they try to work out how to make sure they can get more flexible computer systems. |
