Popis: Friendship overcomes boundaries; boundaries set by cultures, nations, or faiths. Throughout history many stories have been written, and movies made in memory of alliances between persons who have braved the barriers set before them. That persons will have more in common with others of their own kind, be it gender, language, nationality, or faith, is a recognizable phenomenon. But human need for contact and for deeper bonds urges individuals to ignore or sidestep the differences that their worlds have created. These differences can become avenues to new thought, and reveal the vision and ideas of distinctive beliefs and ethical actions. Too often, history documents how religions have been pitted against each other for power and political gains. However, through friendship, we learn ways to respect religious traditions and we develop a desire to learn from these teachings. The mutual love and affection between friends helps each to overcome prejudices and develops tolerance and empathy. It cultivates a sense of dignity for all faith traditions through a deep appreciation of their own faith, as well as that of another’s faith.
