Popis: Cottus petiti (Bacescu and Bacescu-Mester, 1964) is an endemic population of sculpin locked in a single small river of Southern France. Fed by a large karstic spring, this river has offered quite stable conditions probably for millions of years. However, several risks of extinction now exist such as water extraction for urban needs or the introduction of competitors like Cottus gobio. Breeding has further been successfully performed in order to establish a small stock as an initial safety measure before further conservation policies are taken.
