Popis: Radiocommunication for the Internet of things (IoT) is a new paradigm for radio systems, where millions of objects send only infrequent small messages. Low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN) are an answer to IoT need. Sigfox radio solution was the first LPWAN to be deployed. It is based on a disruptive radio technology named ultra-narrowband (UNB). UNB leverages random access techniques in time, frequency, and space to get low power and low complexity for object transmitters. All complex processing is in base stations and in the core network, which connect objects to application servers over the Internet. Key technical characteristics of three-dimensional UNB (3D-UNB), the Sigfox communication rules over the air, are detailed. The highlighted main design choices show how 3D-UNB allows to get a worldwide network suitable for IoT connectivity.
