Popis: In order to construct fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks, very- high-count and very-high-density optical-fiber cables are needed, and several studies of such cables have been published.1,2 In such optical cables, reducing the coating diameter of the optical fiber3 is indispensable, but this inevitably causes deterioration in lateral-pressure characteristics. Therefore the cable structure must be designed so that the fiber is low enough to ensure the long-term stability of transmission characteristics.
