In this chapter the author closes the circle and discusses the power and limits of rankings in the light of the findings in the previous chapters. He suggests measures for the consideration of the rankers, aimed at improving their product’s accuracy, meaning and, ultimately, value. And he identifies the essential weakness of an instrument that aims to measure the performance and general quality of a university across science systems on a global scale: that it decontextualizes what should be evaluated in its context and compares what is hardly comparable. |
