Popis: In the United States, Asian Americans are often stereotyped as being high-achieving, well-off, and high-status racial minorities, otherwise known as “model” minorities. The Model Minority stereotype has historically been weaponized by White Americans to pit minority racial groups against one another, which has led to interracial tension between the Asian and Black American communities. Specifically, the Model Minority stereotype of Asian Americans was used to justify Black Americans' violence and oppression. This can cause a lack of intergroup solidarity, which creates a barrier toward racial justice, as racially marginalized groups that work together to push back against oppressive systems and ideologies are better positioned to make change. Thus, the current study is important because, to understand how and when societal norms foster positive intra-minority relationships, it is important to examine how current stereotypes may hinder positive social relationships, such as allyship and solidarity, between minority groups.
