In this paper we study the performance of a novel Indoor GSM Base Station (IBS) system. The system consists of one HUB station and several Radio Heads (RH). Due to RHs, a true Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) component is introduced to GSM system without need for air-interface modifications. This allows frequency reuse inside a logical cell hence enhancing the spectral efficiency and enabling the support for very high traffic densities with only few carriers. In this work we have designed a SW tool to perform time dynamic simulation model for an office environment to assess the functioning of IBS system. It was found that the system is able to cope with very high traffic densities with only three or four carriers while maintaining high communication quality. The results are reasonable close to the results obtained in other independent studies about a similar system. The slight differences in results were because of the differences in system modelling and simulated environment. Nevertheless, the conclusion that GSM system spectrum efficiency can be greatly improved in an office environment was confirmed. |
