Popis:	This chapter begins with an overview of the establishment of the Sociological Society and their limited contributions to the long-term development of sociology in Britain. A detailed analysis of the factors that influenced the Society’s direction of development reveals a missed opportunity to incorporate contemporary statistical methods and outlook into the newly formed subject of sociology. Although the Society did not adopt a clear-cut anti-statistical position, their work and approach fostered a general perception of incompatibility between statistics and sociology that was to shape the long-term future of British sociology.
