Summary In this study the feasibility test of virtual S-wave cross-dipole data in onshore case is demonstrated. The virtual S-wave cross-dipole data is generated by utilizing seismic interferometry to horizontal components of seismic data received at two receivers. In our method mono-pole source is used for generating the virtual S-wave cross-dipole data instead of the S-wave source, which needs high const. For fundamental feasibility test of our method, we firstly conducted the simple numerical test with single anisotropic target and single survey line using 3 components of geophones. With these virtual S-wave cross-dipole data, we estimated the fast S-wave orientation in the target layer. Secondly, we conducted a simple fast S-wave orientation estimation with these virtual cross-dipole data using 2D- 3C onshore data from Blackfoot, Spring Coulee, Alberta, Canada. Each test shows the reasonable estimation of S-wave orientation accuracy, and we conclude that the proposed methodology has potential of fast S-wave orientation estimation in broad area with relatively more simple analysis procedure and relatively lower implement cost. |
