Introduction of variable, secured, and intermittent renewable energy resources in the power generation system can be a propitious solution to the worldwide energy crisis. In the context of present situation, involvement of the renewables is undoubtedly a constructive approach to enhance energy security and ensure sustainable energy system. Through incorporation of appropriate strategies, sustained policy support, and institutional settings, renewable energy could be harnessed in a sufficient scale to explicate climatic concerns around the globe. To address this, this article examines Bangladesh’s current state of research in the field of ocean energy particularly tidal energy and investigates future possibilities of development of the technology. Despite large potential for renewable energy sources, currently their contribution to the electricity supply nationwide remains insignificant. This article argues that further significant efforts could be made toward utilizing enormous possibilities of renewables in the coastal zone of Bangladesh thereby developing a national sustainable energy strategy. |
