The Centre for Applied Archaeology (CfAA) was commissioned by UK Land and Property to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land at Gore Street Car Park, Gore Street, Salford, Greater Manchester (centred on SJ 83040 98490) as part of a redevelopment scheme. This report consists of the results from the eleven evaluation trenches and an open area evaluation of the potential cemetery. An archaeological assessment had demonstrated that the study area had a high potential for the survival of 18th and 19th century remains associated with housing and industry, and some potential for the survival of Medieval or early post-Medieval plough soils in yard and road areas and below uncellared buildings. Also highlighted was the presence of the former New Jerusalem Church and its associated graveyard. Although most of the burials were removed during the construction of Trinity Way it was not known if the removal extended into the portion of the graveyard to the east, within the study area. |
