Popis: Analysis of the frequency and intensity of rain in the city of Ponta Grossa, Parana State in the period from 1954 to 2001. This study aimed to conduct an assessment of the frequency and intensity of precipitation in Ponta Grossa, Parana State, for the period between 1954 and 2001, using statistical techniques of exploratory data analysis with the use of the Microsoft Office Excel and Microcal Origin software. The total annual precipitation average for the examined series was 1,546.2 mm, showing a tendency to increase over the years. The month with the highest precipitation average was January, and August was the one with the lowest average. For all months of the year, there was a positive asymmetry observed in the frequency distribution of data, and in the driest months, this trend was more pronounced. With regard to the intensity of rainfall, daily totals were classified as drizzle, light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain and extreme rain. The predominant range of precipitation for most months was light rain, between 2.5 and 10.0 mm.
