Synthetic dyes are released into the environment through effluent arising from various industrial operations. The release of such colored effluent in the nearby water resources can cause significant environmental pollution and pose serious health concerns. Among the reported methods for the treatment of dye polluted water, photo-assisted methods, mainly electro-photocatalysis, are receiving considerable attention. In this method, the major disadvantage of charge pair recombination associated with photocatalysis can be successfully solved by application of an anodic bias. This chapter presents a summary of literature reported on electro-photocatalysis. The fundamental mechanism, experimental configuration, effect of reaction conditions, and major outcomes are discussed. |
