The position of the measuring volume, formed by laser beam intersection in laser Doppler anemometry (LDA), needs to be known accurately. The use of a thermistor probe for determining measuring volume location is described. This is accomplished by allowing the beams to impinge on a thermistor and measuring its resistance, which changes as the thermistor is heated by the beams. Resistance values indicate whether one, two, or three beams of a three-beam LDA system are striking the thermistor. The probe system design is described, and experimental results are presented. |
