Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a promising noninvasive method for cancer treatment. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor effect of sinoporphyrin sodium (DVDMS) mediated sonodynamic therapy on nude mice bearing intracranial U87 MG-Red-Fluc human glioblastoma (GBM). We used focused ultrasound (FUS) in combination with microbubbles (MBs) to open the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in order to enhance the accumulation of DVDMS in the brain first and then applied SDT. 3D bioluminescence imaging (BLI) results illustrated that intracranial GBM progress was retarded effectively in two weeks after the treatment. The median survival time of the treated mice was prolonged to 33 days after SDT treatment while the one of the untreated mice was 21 days. The results of the study suggested that the DVDMS mediated SDT may provide a new promising therapeutic strategy against glioblastoma. |
