Popis:	The action of methylthiomethylene-triphenylphosphorane on 2,3: 4,5-di-O-isopropylidene-Aldehydo--L-arabinose led with good yield to the corresponding unsaturated sugar which underwent electrophilic addition with a high regiospecificity. This provides a useful new route for a one-carbon chain extension in the carbohydrate series.
